Photophobia is a medical symptom of extreme sensitivity or intolerance to light. This level of light sensitivity can be so strong that it can induce more than just discomfort but also physical pain. Photophobia can be caused by a variety of factors, including migraine headaches, dry eyes, and certain eye diseases.

The treatment for photophobia depends on the underlying cause. In some cases, if the photophobia is related to an eye disease, treatment of the underlying condition often resolves the light sensitivity. In many cases, photophobia can be managed with lifestyle changes, such as wearing sunglasses, avoiding bright lights, and using dimmer switches in the home or office. If you are experiencing photophobia, it is important to see a doctor to determine the cause and get appropriate treatment.
