Today’s recipe is Chinese Chicken With Ginger Green Onion. It’s a simple, easy and tasty recipe using Walmart roast chicken.
This is the 1st of 7 Chinese recipes I made using cooked Walmart roast chicken. Because the Walmart roast chicken is already cooked, this recipe is super quick. It’s economical because I made 7 recipes from 1 chicken. The total cost is about $20 Canadian for all 7 recipes. If you order all 7 orders from a Chinese restaurant, it would cost you between $100 to $150 Canadian. All the ingredients for these recipes can be found at most Walmart stores. You don’t need to go to a Chinese or Asian supermarket but you can if you want. Recipe is below:

CHINESE CHICKEN WITH GINGER GREEN ONION SAUCE 姜葱鸡

1/2 Walmart cooked roast chicken
1/2 to 3/4 cup green onions chopped
1 to 2 tablespoons ginger chopped and smashed
2 to 3 tablespoons avocado oil (or other cooking oil)
1/2 to 2/3 cup chicken broth (or water)
1 to 2 tablespoons light soy sauce (aka regular soy sauce)
2 to 3 tablespoons Chinese oyster sauce (or other sauce ie. hoisin sauce)
1 tablespoon black bean sauce (or 1 teaspoon fermented black beans)
1 tablespoon cornstarch in 1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon sesame oil

Cooking Instructions:

Cut chicken into pieces. It you want to cut chicken Chinese style, check my video on how to cut up a whole chicken Chinese style. In this recipe I use 1/2 a cooked Walmart roast chicken. To serve a whole chicken, just double the ingredients for this recipe.

Preheat a wok or frying pan. Add cooking oil. When the oil starts to lightly smoke, add ginger. Stir fry briefly 30 to 45 seconds. Add water or chicken broth. You can also use chicken soup base or chicken boullion with water if you like. Bring the sauce to a boil. Thicken with the cornstach slurry. Add more or less to reach desired thickness for the sauce. Just before serving, add green onions and mix well. Add a dash os sesame for nutty flavor and fragrance. Pour sauce over cut up roast chicken. Enjoy!
